What do you feel when you see a magnificent view?

I went to Ubirr in the Northern Territory a number of years back. The vista from the outcrop was spectacular. Overlooking a vast green plain, rivers and even a crocodile or two. It was amazing.

I was there with a friend who didn’t believe in God. We both felt humbled by the sight and my friend was genuinely lost for words, he said, ‘it makes you feel really…’, and he couldn’t quite articulate what it made him feel – he almost admitted to wanting to worship something.

His instinct in seeing a magnificent view was to worship something bigger.

Psalm 19:1 says,

The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

So perhaps the instinct to worship something bigger reflects how we’re made?
