Disney’s Oz

Walt Disney Pictures unveiled the first trailer for Oz: The Great and Powerful at San Diego Comic-Con 2012 on July 12.

James Franco stars as Oscar Diggs, a shady circus magician from Kansas who is transported to the magical land of Oz, where he manages to convince Ozians that he is a powerful wizard. However, the witches Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams) are not so convinced of his greatness.

Mirroring the 1939 original the film looks like it begins in black and white and opens out to the wonderful world of Oz. With Disney trying to find the elusive franchise that will earn them the sort of money that Warner Bros. has with Harry Potter, this new spin on the Oz fable looks amazing.

Here’s a first look at the teaser trailer from director Sam Raimi’s highly-anticipated adventure. Raimi has pulled out the visual stops for this one, and the Emerald City in particular looks like it could be a showstopper.

Oz: The Great and Powerful comes to theaters March 8th, 2013 and stars James Franco, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, Michelle Williams, Abigail Spencer, Zach Braff, Joey King. The film is directed by Sam Raimi.
