Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) has won the Hunger Games, the brutal televised competition designed to keep Panem’s oppressed population in line. She even managed to get Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) out alive too, under the pretext of being in love with him. But now, as the two get ready for a victory tour of the Districts, the real games are about to begin.
President Snow (Donald Sutherland) is trying to extinguish the spark of revolution which her antics in the competition ignited. In an ominous visit to Katniss, he warns her that she must become a government puppet, playing the role of grateful victor, or watch her friends and family suffer. Even the smallest act of insurrection – including a growing closeness with her old friend Gale (Liam Hemsworth) – will have terrible consequences.
When these threats prove insufficient, Snow and his right hand man Plutarch Heavensbee (Philip Seymour Hoffman) devise a scheme to destroy both Katniss and what she stands for. Along with a crop of previous Hunger Games victors, she will be going back into the arena.
